PERFORMANCES AT REAL TEATRO DE RETIRO
It is essential to return to silent films and experience these from the perspective for which they were created: a cinematographic social and musical event of superior quality.
On this occasion we will enjoy Sherlock Jr. (1924) that was directed by and starred Buster Keaton himself. In this movie, Keaton is a projectionist who longs to be a detective when, miraculously, he finds himself in the very movie being shown. In his dream, the projectionist tries to save his beloved from the villain’s grasp. This is one of the most acclaimed films of the genre, full of optical effects, and Buster Keaton is magnificent.
The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926), directed by Lotte Reiniger, is one of the first full-length animated films. The German director used Chinese
shadow puppetry and lead sheets to recreate a story inspired in One Thousand and One Nights.
