Kornilios Michailidis

Biography

This Greek conductor and pianist recently won both the first prize and the orchestra prize at the Tokyo International Conducting Competition (2024). He served as the resident conductor of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra (2021-2022) and frequently returns as a guest conductor. Michailidis has led the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Russian National Orchestra, the Lahti Symphony, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Southern Denmark Philharmonic, the Szczecin Philharmonic, and major Greek orchestras. He has also collaborated with renowned soloists like Lise Davidsen, Sir Stephen Hough, and Benjamin Grosvenor.

A graduate of the Sibelius Academy with a master's in conducting, he was the assistant conductor for the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (2016-2017) and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France (2018-2020). Additionally, he co-founded and conducted the Beethoven Now! project (2016–2020) and established the Koufonisia Classical Music Festival in 2016. Outside of music, he is an active aviator. Since 2018, he has been regularly collaborating with the Teatro Real, where he made his debut with The Magic Flute (2020) and later conducted Nixon in China (2023).
