When there were still many ex-combatants and exiled Republicans who held out hope that the allied forces in the Second World War would put an end to the Franco regime, Max Aub pre-empted the total standstill of time with which history would condemn all of these people in a labyrinth of political and personal divided loyalties, uncertainty and disappointments. Tránsito, a one act play, was written in 1944 but was set during a night of tossing and turning, three years later in 1947 in Mexican exile. It constitutes an ethical testimony of that historical moment and was the literary inspiration for Zaragoza born Jesús Torres, holder of the 2012 National Prize of Music, to compose a chamber opera divided in twelve moments. The operatic debut of Torres is backed by a solid artistic trajectory of more than three decades. His is an autonomous and versatile voice which, with the passing of time, has evolved in independence, intensity and emotion, and a passionate bond with Castilian poetry, permanently mirrored in his musical production. From the first bars of the prologue, the music is dense and complex, a reflection of the disturbing text of Max Aub.
