In tribute to José Carreras on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his performance of Adriana Lecouvreur in Madrid, at the Teatro de la Zarzuela (1974), with Montserrat Caballé.
Synopsis and more information
The opera takes place in 18th century France. The famous actress Adriana Lecouvreur falls in love with the nobleman Maurizio. Jealousy and betrayal are unleashed when Maurizio's secret identity is revealed, leading Adriana to a tragic fate.

Considerada una de las mejores actrices del siglo XIX y XX, Sarah Bernhardt supo dar una dimensión especial al personaje de Adriana Lecouvreur, actriz también –como Bernhardt– de la Comédie Française y sobre la que grabó una película en 1913. Para ahondar en la vida de esta musa de escritores como Oscar Wilde, Víctor Hugo o Jean Cocteau, el Institut Français de Madrid junto al canal audiovisual francés TV5MONDE presentan el documental con subtítulos en español Sarah Bernhardt, à corps perdu, que la directora Sophie Jaubert realizó con motivo del centenario de la muerte de la bretona.

En colaboración con el Círculo de Bellas Artes, el Institut français de España y la embajada francesa proponen una lectura dramatizada en francés con sobretítulos en español, escrita y dirigida por Juliette Deschamps, con los actores Judith Chemla y Bruno Blairet. Con este acto, a la vez divertido y conmovedor, en forma de biopic en 18 episodios, se homenajeará la figura de la inmensa y escandalosa actriz francesa Sarah Bernhardt, quien creó los más grandes papeles del repertorio de la época.
